Consumer GPS device prices have dramatically dropped within the past few years. With this trend a new market for GPS devices has emerged. Enter the Garmin GPS range for fitness. Well, when I say fitness there is only really two types from Garmin. Running and Cycling. Swimming and a lot of other sports don’t work well with GPS. Garmin has become one of the most recognized name in the manufacture of consumer GPS products. The Garmin Bike GPS is called the Garmin Edge series. They come with different models, each model kind of representing the price of it.
For example the Garmin Edge 205 is under $200. The Garmin Edge 305 is about $300 (with cadence and heart rate monitor) Then there is the Garmin Edge 605 and the Garmin Edge 705. In my opinion any of these would be great as a bike computer. GPS signal quality on these units won’t be affected by trees according to Garmin also. If I were going to buy one I would either buy the Garmin Edge 305 or the Garmin Edge 705. They all come with universal mounts for the GPS. The major advantage the Garmin Edge 705 has over the other is the color screen and a lot of better features. The price is the big factor that comes in to play for me
On Ebay you can find GPS bicycle mounts for this device if you have more than one bike.
I think that the Garmin Edge 705 is hands down the best gps navigation system for a bicycle. It would also be a great GPS for touring.
You can check the specifications of each model out at Garmins website here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=160
For the best prices on this unit I would check out all of the links on this site, some places I link to have special offers regarding these bike mount GPS’s.
Now I think about it I wrote yesterday about a dirt bike rack. The 205 would be a great GPS device for a dirt bike or a ATV. I’ll be updating this site soon with links to the best deals on bicycle GPS’s.
I want one of these bike GPS’s so bad. I just don’t know when I’m going to break down and buy one.
