Homemade Bike Racks – How To Make Your Own Bike Rack

I have plans that I have written down on how to build a bike rack. The bike rack is a very simple pulley system that is used in conjunction with a rope. You hook the bike onto the rope with other pieces of rope and the 150lb carabina, then simply pull the bike off of the ground. This is perfect for the a home patio or garage. Take a look at my plans below and let me know what you think. They are a bit crude but believe me this homemade bike rack really works!!!

Homemade Bike Rack Plans

I’m going to redraw these plans so that you can actually see the diagram. I also have pictures of mine which I had bikes hoisted up on my balcony for a long time. I am going to make one of these for my parents to use in their garage since they also have a lot of bikes. These hoists really get my bikes out of the way.

I made almost the exact same sling and stored 2 bikes in the rafters of my garage all winter. Used old carpet scraps where the rope came in contact w/ the bike to prevent abrading the paint. Mine only had one contact point- so I had to go with where the balance point was, which happened to be just ahead of the seat on the top cross bar. I like your 2 point sling as you can set the 2 pt.s and not be at whim of your bikes balance point. Plus, w/ only 1 contact pt. the bike was unruly when being hoisted. Good job, I’ll use your method next year when it comes time to put them away again
